HBID’s FREE Bicycle Roadside Assistance Program Launches

Hartford Business Improvement District Launches First Bicycle Roadside Assistance Program

Hartford, CT – The Hartford Business Improvement District (HBID) recently launched a free bicycle roadside assistance program, the first of its kind offered by a business improvement district in the U.S. HBID Ambassadors are available to fix flat tires, replace tubes, reattach slipped chains, or tighten loose bolts anywhere in Hartford’s Commercial Core. In the first two months of the program HBID Ambassadors have responded to dozens of calls from stranded cyclists.

HBID Ambassadors were trained to perform the bicycle maintenance by mechanics at BiCi Co., a local non-profit organization dedicated to providing an opportunity to improve youth and adult safety and sustainable transportation.

“We want to encourage bicycle ridership in the District, and having a reliable support system should help someone who might be on the fence about biking in the city center, to take that step and expand their transportation options,” said Executive Director, Jordan Polon.

HBID Bicycle Roadside Assistance is available throughout the commercial business district at no charge, Monday through Saturday, 6 a.m. – 11 p.m., and Sunday, 6 a.m. – 8 p.m. Anyone in need of bicycle assistance can call the Security Ambassador Assistance line at (860) 331-4646.
